The Top Video Tool to Promote Your Dance Studio through Social Media

For Day #29 in our 90-Day Social Media Success Challenge for Dance Studios, I’d like to discuss with you my thoughts on one of the most effective social media marketing tools for dance studios: Video. Videos are one of the hottest things on the internet, and have been for a long time now, which is why Youtube has become a household name. Videos are so impactful because they take you from the static world of social media (text, photos), to real-life people, places, and things. They allow you to connect with people in a way that you can’t necessarily do through text and photos. In social media for dance studios, videos are your life line. Prospective students and parents need to see you in action and see what you have to offer, in order to be motivated to visit your studio and sign up for classes. Videos bring people from no action, to action. If you want to see what I mean by this, check out my article, “A Real-Life Social Media Success Story”, and watch a fantastic video from Nuevo School of Contemporary Dance.

I have personally developed a passion for videos as well since our America’s Best Dance Studio Contest. I saw, firsthand, how the videos that we created for the contest, took it to the next level. Not to mention, the dance studios participating in the contest were able to submit videos showcasing their students’ performances as well. I am positive that we would not have received over 11,000 votes in the contest without the use of videos.

In a previous article, I discussed how to use videos to promote your dance studio through social media, “5 Positive and Powerful Ways to Use Video in Social Media for Dance Studios”. Since Youtube is already a household name, I though I’d share with you my latest favorite tool for sharing and promoting videos in social media, and online: Blip.tv

Blip.tv is a next-generation television network. It is a free service that allows you to create your own web tv show. They also distribute your videos across the web, to what they consider the “video internet”.  However, you can decide which distribution networks you want your videos to be shared on. You also have the option of participating in their advertising program. They share advertising revenues 50/50 with all shows who participate in the advertising program. I am not currently participating in their advertising program, but I think it’s a pretty cool feature, and may choose to participate down the line.

A few of my favorite things about Blip.tv are:

1)      Their extensive distribution channels for your Blip.tv video channel which include:

  • YouTube;
  • TiVo;
  • Apple iTunes, iPhone and Apple TV;
  • Verizon FiOS Video on Demand;
  • Time Warner Cable VOD (some markets);
  • AOL Video;
  • MSN Video;
  • Yahoo! Video (limited support at this time);
  • MySpace;
  • MySpace TV (coming soon);
  • del.icio.us;
  • Facebook;
  • Twitter;
  • Flickr;
  • The Internet Archive;
  • Boxee;
  • Roku (coming soon);
  • Sony Bravia televisions with Bravia Internet Video Link;
  • Most WordPress, TypePad, Movable Type, Blogger and Tumblr blogs;
  • Vimeo.

2) It automatically updates your Facebook, Twitter, Myspace pages, and your blog, once you connect your accounts to your Blip.tv channel. 3) You are able to embed your Blip.tv player into your website. This is great if you wanted to create a special page on your website for people to view the different web shows that you’ve created highlighting various aspects of your dance studio.

I hope that you will check out Blip.tv, and take advantage of this free service as another way to successfully promote and market your dance studio through social media.
