Dance Teachers: How Can We Help You?
As a dance teacher, I’ve always felt a very close connection to the worldwide community of dance teachers because we all experience a lot of the same joys and the same struggles as well. When I first started my company, Kiner Enterprises Inc., I started it from a place of wanting to help other dance teachers in need. I was blessed to have gotten to a point where I was actually turning down jobs, because my schedule was jam-packed. But at the same time, I knew of so many other teachers that were looking for more work, and it just didn’t seem fair. So I wanted to become a connector, and help dance teachers to get access to the jobs that they needed, as well as other valuable resources to help create long, stable, and successful dance teaching careers.

I would say the insurance peaked my interest. Currently, I pay for my own. And the only way to get it at the facility I’m currently teaching, is to go “full-time”. But then would be on salary and lose money. Free tax help would also be useful (as there is for Equity members). I did my own this year and was only allowed to write off $250 for supplies!! Normally I’ve written MUCH more than that off, but then definitely paid for it by paying my tax preparer. Ugh!
Staci, you make some really good points here. It’s a shame that going on salary, which should be a good thing, can end up hurting you financially. Although, it is cool that the studio you teach at has that option. Paying for your own insurance is ridiculously expensive! Kudos to you for making that sacrifice, as opposed to having none at all. Free tax help is always a great thing, and having a good accountant on your side is a must! Thanks so much for your input!
