Tonight (Tues. Feb. 22, 2011) on The Kiner Hour, two heavy hitters in the dance world! A Hip-Hop Master, and a Broadway Star! Emilio Buddha Stretch” Austin Jr., and Adesola Osakalumi.
Buddha Stretch is a member of The Elite Force Crew, and has worked with the likes of Rosie Perez, Will Smith in the “Men In Black” and “Miami” videos, Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time” video (his most memorable experience), and many more. He was nominated for two MTV Awards for Best Choreography for the Will Smith videos “Men In Black”, “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It”, and “Miami”.
In 1989 Stretch was the first Hip Hop dancer to teach Hip Hop in a mainstream dance studio; New York’s Broadway Dance Center.
Adesola has played the starring role, and performed in the cast of the award-winning Broadway production of “Fela!“. He was also a cast member in last season’s highly acclaimed revival of “Equus” with Daniel Radcliff.
As a highly regarded leader in the world of Hip-Hop Dance & Theater Adesola co-founded GhettOriginal Productions Dance Company. GhettOriginal created the first Hip-Hop theater production “Jam OnThe Groove”; premiering Off-Broadway to rave reviews and receiving a Drama Desk Award Nomination for Best Choreography. Adesola also designs dance productions for high-end corporate clients such as American Express, Panasonic, SAP and Merck and his work has earned him a Bessie Award, a Drama Desk Award nomination, and funding support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
“The Kiner Hour – Lets Talk Dance With Ashani Mfuko“ is a feature internet radio show on the Talking Alternative Radio Broadcasting Network, which is also streamed live from the studio in New York City on Ustream.tv, on Tuesday nights from 7pm-8pm, with archives available for download.
